Though the format of my review has changed from choosing the top ten across all segments to reviewing the best designers per category, i would have to say that Jerome Ang still snags the number one position among all the collections. For Spring Summer 09, Jerome only showed 10 pieces from his previous 30 but it still managed to encapsulate his clear vision and beautiful aesthetic.
Full Review Here...He calls this one Babel, though literally it would mean confusion, his collection showed otherwise, his take was on the diversity of cultures, african/incan/buddhist and an inter-racial mix of elements. Each piece was different in silhouette and fabric but it was cohesive as a whole through the look and feel. His was also the only collection that showed a directional look for Spring Summer which did not mean swimsuits or kaftans. He opened with a sexy red, black and nude printed chiffon mini dress that was knife pleated and twisted across the body, sleeves and decolletage was distressed blurring and softening the edges. From there it was one gorgeous piece after another, a sequined pseudo jumpsuit thats a short skirt in the front but was a harem pant at the back, high waisted jodphurs with a top handpainted with feathers, a turquoise charmeuse cinched dress with mirror glass beads details and an architectural collar, a fabulous gray organdy animal print dress with accordion pleats manipulated to form the decolletage and hem, and his closing piece, a knotted peek-a-boo bubble dress with shredded chiffon as sleeves. Every piece was complemented with his own statement baroque jewelry and his signature fierce shoes. That for me is what a brand should be, the total packaging. Jerome Ang once again is at my coveted number one spot because his creative genius is reinterpreted in a complete visual feast of covetable clothes and accessories thats never trend led, wearable and looks oh so fabulous on women.
