KITTY PURRY

This was how I spent Chinese New Year's Eve... In a Katy Perry concert. But that's not the start of the story, I'm getting way ahead. I had work that day (Sunday) with a call time of 5am in Binondo. CHINATOWN. Where the New Year revelry will be at it's peak. Good thing that my shoot was just near Jones bridge and not right smack in the middle of the festivities. But still, inner city, and a 5am call time. Ngur. And to top it all off, my tummy was all in a rumble. I was feeling sick and dehydrated. But in styling work as every stylist knows, there are no absent days. The show must go on.

So I went out still dark, (there wasn't any sun yet) with just medicine as my only hope and savior, only to find that the location had no decent toilet. KMN. I had to suck it in and not think of the nagging wiggles in the stomach. I must have popped 4 imodiums that day. TMI. But then I was that scared to go to the loo. I was drinking sips out of my water bottle and not super chugs like my usual 2000mls a day. And my only meal was a pair of forlorn pandesals. I felt really thin though.

But the location was amazing. It was an old rundown building that had a super high ceiling. Having that vast height allows more light in giving spectacular photos.

Footwear dream. YSL's, Louboutins, McQueens, Charlotte Olympia's...

The space felt like a New York atelier.

Rundown buildings always have the best texture. This corner can already work as a lookbook backdrop. I had to try.

Achieved! So yes, my shoot ended at 7pm. The concert was "suppose" to start at 8. Photo finish because we wrapped at 730. By this time I literally had the shakes from exhaustion. And I had to drive all the way to MOA. I really, seriously need a driver. I wanted nothing more than collapsing in my bed, but sayang ang tickets!! and not after buying it at the very last minute when the tickets were supposedly all sold out.

Got there without any incident but the mall traffic and parking was excruciating. Luckily we found a spot at the far end, around the SMX area. Di na choosy!! we just walked to the concert grounds. In hindsight, it was better that we parked all the way there, we escaped the post gridlock after the show.

It was a fun actually, found Katy to be very perky, bubbly and naughty. Hello, kisses on stage with that young actor? Aaaah, to be a popstar. I wasn't too sure about her wardrobe though. Eek. Anyhoo, we had a good vantage, Row V, which is 22th from the stage. I couldn't unscrew my lens to change to zoom (much to my dismay), hence the quality of the photos. But, I survived that day. With California Girls as LSS.

THE RESISTANCE

I've been waiting for the events to kick off the year but there's been a lull. But it's been trickling, as you can see in my posts. I want more though! Liz's birthday party is set on the 5th of February, so that should be something to look forward to... expect more and merrier photos.

Last week I went to the press event of the new Globe Tattoo (promising a faster and more powerful internet connectivity), coining the new movement as the "resistance" against the usual pre-conceived notions of what a broadband should be. Of course new endorser Georgina was there leading the style army with her military inspired mini waistcoat.

I had work today. But having friends at the end of the day over good food makes it all worth it. We tried Romulo's Cafe in Jupiter. Ultra comfort food in a relaxed setting. And, I forgot to take photos. I haven't blogged in so long that I've forgotten to catalog my life. Now I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing. But mistake noted. Now my camera won't leave my bag again. Anyway, beside that point, interjected in between the menu was a brief history of Carlos P. Romulo's life. And at the end was a list of his achievements. It ran pretty long, journalist, author, diplomat, Pulitzer prize winner, National Artist in Literature, co-founder of the Philippine Boy Scouts, dubbed as Mr. United Nations and more. I was pretty awed and inspired. Even googled him in Wikipedia. I'm not even going to pretend that I knew about him till I sat down to eat some sinigang liempo, but am I wrong to think that there is not one poiltician now that has his heart in it for the country? And I get home and watch "impeachment" by Che Che Lazaro. And it's just so depressing. Is there still someone who runs for office for the pure purpose of wanting to make a difference? Or am I being naive? Who will save us?

Till i research more on this, I'm going back to safer ground, switching back to fashion now.

TOUCH THE SKYE.

I'm never out. My free time is spent on dinner with friends and movies. Ang tanda ko lang ba? okay, don't answer that. But once in a while i do get the itch to dance. And drink. But most clubs are too crowded for me to enjoy so I gravitate towards more quiet places to get my alchohol fix. Pauline invited me to Skye last year on her wedding anniversary and I fell in love with the place. As the name suggests, it's a rooftop bar. Huge too, at the top floor at W at The Fort, its a good alternative to the usual smoky, raucous crowd. Plus it has this astroturf frame that goes around the place, giving it a lawn + country club + rooftop feel. haylaveet.

Ginormous fan. They say that the word Ginourmous needs to be rested. But what to replace it with? Dinosauric? Megalithic? Those sound too off. Well, i could just say that this ceiling fan was really, really big.

And then from no bars to being at Skye successively. That is, when there's a table to spare. I heard weekends are crazily packed! I've only been on week days.

I wish i could remember to take self-portraits during Fashion Week. AC always reminds me to but when he's not there, the need just quietly goes away. It's not really a priority, TBH, I'd rather take photos of other people but then how can I share the talent of local designers to the world? (world talaga?!) So if this post comes with interspersed photos from stylebible.ph, alam mo na yown---my twin, not present.

Oh, and I'd like to debunk another fashion fallacy. During Fashion Week, picking the look to go with the day's show is not as effortless as it seems. We don't just wear the first stylish outfit we see in our closet. Planning and preparation goes into each one, going as far as buying pieces months in advance. So if somebody in fashion says, "oh this? It's just something I threw on." He/She's a big fat liar.

Day 2. Is it me or do I seriously need some makeup here? Easing into my first day, technically. Missed the Sunday opener because I just arrived from a week long vacation.
Suit: ZARA. Button-down: BANGKOK FLEA MARKET. Lace maxi: ARNOLD GALANG. Bag: LANVIN.

Day 3. Channeling a pre-war forties silhouette complete with wide brims and stacked mary janes. I might have been inspired by Evan Rachel Wood with her maroon leather trench by Gucci. I opted for a monochromatic purple instead. I love these tights, they're actually not so obvious in this picture but they're two toned Tabio's from Japan. Colored in front but black at the back. The Mary Janes are from H&M's new Conscious Collection, a range of sustainable and environmentally friendly pieces.

Day 4. Nothing speaks editrix more than a finely tailored piece. Plus this one comes with linear windows cut out of it. I remember my heart skipping a beat when it came down the runway. I wanted it so bad that I bought it immediately after the show. Heeh.

Day 5. An all-black ensemble will always be my most comfortable uniform. I just vary it with shapes, textures and contrasting finishes. Obviously, I'm a big fan of legwear, this one was another treasure bought in Japan. Its rare that I find a piece that comes with a pattern this intricate. It might be from a high street brand, but it's made in Italy---so even if we do have the brand here, I bought it anyway. Paired it with this a cape and a mullet dress. Oh, and those sunnies, they're my ultra favorite. But it finally retired last year when the frame cracked and the lens popped out. Aaaw. It did serve me well.

Another monochromatic day, this time with caramel contrasted with metallic hues. One-alls are so comfortable to wear but such a bitch when the toilet calls. Obviously, I suffer for fashion.

Day 7
The boofy was kind enough to attend all the weekend shows with me. Black and white for the win. This outfit is one of my favorites. Love the sheer skirt with the pailleted wing design by designer Xernan Orticio. And the kimono top can work on its own as a short dress.

I've always enjoyed going backstage. I experience the clothes on a more personal level. I can run my hands through textures and feel how it goes against skin. I can flip over hems and peer into inner constructions. It's like meeting a new and yet old friend. It's an emotion that's totally different from watching it glide down the runway, although both hold almost the same fascination for me. I'd like to say that I want to do that to all the designers that I review, but again, I'm always against time. So whatever chance that's given to me, I pack camera, hit fittings and just ogle, touch, take notes and be amazed.

My resolution, as witnessed by my column last saturday, went along the lines of me putting in more effort to re-animating my sleeping blog. I really do say that every start of the year but I gradually lose steam around September. Heeh. Sorry naman. I'm not going to go down the justifying path and explain myself with excuses. Keeping a site really requires extra effort but there are times when I really can't update---so there goes a month of stylesamurai limbo. But the good news is, here I am! Let's move on.

It was a strictly invitational thing with the brand requiring the presentation of the actual invites before entry. First point was the store of course, we got there late but was in time for the shuttling of the guests to the then undisclosed location. Which turned out to be a transformed whitespace.

How about that? End of the year closing in on us already? I haven't even started on the gift buying. Zoiks. I'm not sure if December means more money (what with 13th month pays and bonuses) or less money since I'll be spending it all on pressies for family, friends, boofie and myself. Heeh. Huwag naman tayo magpanggap diba? Aren't we all treating ourselves to something nice this December? Ayon pa kay Alvin of L'0real: because you're worth it. Haha.

Anyhoo, if you still have some money left over (or unspent), I've joined the Bloggers United bazaar this Dec. 3. Ngayong Saturday na yun ha. It's Andre and I, and a heap of other bloggers selling our pre-owned stuff at dirt cheap prices. Everything starts at P100. Location is at Treston International College, Taguig. And if ever there is such a thing as guilt free shopping, recycling clothes lessens carbon footprint and part of the proceeds from this event will go to the GMA Kapuso for its school building project-- getting new (technically) clothes and helping the Filipino youth’s education--two in one, yea! Told you I was catching up on events. Backtracking, I remember I scheduled a shoot on the same day. It was a fashion story with a portrait of an editor anchoring the page. In other words, it was our portrait shoot, replete with hair and makeup. Convenient as I thought that I could just transition the look from shoot to event. Thing is, I only brought one dress. So it was a self challenge on how to transform the piece from one to the other without making it look like I repeated. Well, you can tell me kung achieve, the fashion story comes out on December, compare it to how I wore it that night:

I guess its better late than never. That night saw me hosting the party along with the rest of the Preview girls. And when i say host, as in, front and center with a mike. Quite an experience but I'm really not scared of public speaking, I'm more scared of going on long flights,swimming in the ocean and girls who are craftily devious.

Anyhoo, would you believe that tonight is my only free night in a month? It was closing, then went on a one week vacation, and then when i came back it was Fashion Week. No time to breathe really, so now its uploading archived photos. Im thinking even though I'm weeks delayed with the event, the outfits still speaks fashion.

Let me start with mine.
Ang girl ko lang dito diba? May sheer eklat pang nalalaman. But I super loved this dress from Joel Escober's SS12 collection. Its done with point d'esprit, covered in the front by this scrunched up heart pattern. Sweet lang ang drama. Pati pose! haha.

Okay, Rockwell Land's Malou Pineda always comes off as the epitome of class. I always like what she's wearing. This detailing on the hip reminds me of Miu Miu Fall/Winter 2011.

Luxe grunge was the theme. Of course I had to go because my anak Anna Canlas was one of the 5 stylists doing the show. Support! Prepped my cam too because I know I'd be taking heaps of photos. Weirdly enough, not a lot of people came in plaid (the go-to signature of Grunge) as well as denim--ripped or otherwise. There were a lot of fur though, crafts (crocheted delicates) and a deluge of hats. Still, it was good fun coz technically I ended up going to three events. 1. The fashion show at the square then 2. Republiq and finally 3. Opus.

I'm not Kikay. Period. I don't have a beauty regimen, (a constant disappointment for our contributing Beauty Editor Agoo, She worries about my skin more than i do. Heeh) and my makeup consists of foundation (for events), blush and lipstick. I don't own an eyelash curler, until i recently got a Chanel one as a gift. I don't do mascaras and I've only just recently discovered make-up removers. I'm that in the dark about these things, so it was more like a "hey--what do I have to lose" attitude when we went to Dr. Aivees clinic in Burgos Circle at the Fort. Initially, Vince wanted to do consultation and since I was a bit curious if there was anything she could do about these two dark spots in my face, i tagged along.

A brief history: I've never had peeling my whole life. Virgin skin. And I've only had a facial once. Yup, thats about it. I've tried diet pills and had my hair color changed more than I have been in a dermas clinic.

So to have this greet me once i stepped off the elevator was disarming. I thought i walked into a suite by mistake. I liked the fact that the clinic had a whole hotel vibe to it. Posh. Definitely upscale. And if she took time out to choose an aesthetically symmetric logo that's tasteful, then Im pretty sure the service would be equally up to par.

And the lobby in soft pinks.

In contrast, for my consultation, and eventually my treatment, I was led into this room that was clinically spotless, all future white with high-tech equipments. Impressed. Haha. Dr. Aivee recommended Fraxel for me, I didn't even know what that meant but in laymens terms, it was a kind of non-invasive procedure with lasers that makes these microscopic wounds so that it triggers the body's natural response to heal. In other words, the face is sort of given a push to renew itself. Not a lot of downtime but a lot of sunblock and cream needed for the healing. So, okay. GO! They had to put anesthesia cream on my face for 30 minutes, but the process itself only took around 15.

I learned something new about myself that day. My face puffed and rosy-ed right after the procedure, like being burned from staying in the beach all day-- and this was normal. Patients usually go straight home and recover--standard SOP. But i still went to meetings after that, even a movie at the end of the day. I would rather face people with an angry blush than go to an event underdressed. I put more concern on my sartorial uniform than how my face looked. Haha.

Sidetracked, but was it worth it? He'll yeah, my skin after two weeks, has this suppleness and freshness that's amazing. I want to go back for more!!

Took photos of Dr. Aivees on the job dress code. She was of course part of the Preview 2010 Best Dressed List. Loved the bangles.

KIEHL'S 160th ANNIVERSARY

I can't really say if I'm a workaholic or not. I try to deny it like some gurgling under the radar illness but then it comes out when i least expect it. I went out of town for Saturday and Sunday since i felt like I deserved some quiet, rest and good food--time well spent to kick off the 4 day weekend. That was easy, but when i came back into town and decided that it was time to let go of work, momentarily clear my mind, unanchor the mobile and just a read a book. I felt like i was missing something. I felt restless. Like i needed to be working since it was after all still a Monday.

But I fought it and instead i found myself devouring the new book in kindle: Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children which i bought this morning but finished now. Yesterday was finishing another book: World War Z, which incidentally I bought on friday. 342 pages, done in two nights. And now, since i have nothing else to do, instead of catching up on rest, I'm here online, updating. What I'm trying to say is... wait, ano nga ba? Haha. Eto, eto, To get maximum peace of mind, I tried to slow down my pace, I forced myself to go off the grid. Like not check emails, not blog, not attach my phone to my grip, but noooooooo.... It's an addiction, total blackout is death. Waaah Okay, melodramatic but at least now I know I really can't stay away. Its the pull. *shrug shoulders* Can't fight it, at least recognizing it is the first step. Hahahah.

Sowries, psycho babble. Anyhoo, backtracking to the Kiehl's event. 160 years. Wow. If that's not heritage, then I don't know what is.

The event called for vintage tees as the dress code. But I went instead in a vintage dress, channelling London with a porkpie hat and this seasons love for anything spotty and midi. Two trends in one. Check! Secretary dressing lang. Incidentally, this was the day after the Fashion Ball. Still had that pussy-bow hangover. Heeh. =)

FIRST PHILIPPINE FASHION BALL

I got the invitation to the Philippine Fashion Ball in an understated white envelope, inside: a simple white card with my name handwritten on it. What got my attention was that aside from it being obviously a fashion event, there were no sponsors printed on the card. Clean borders without any logos! That's ultra rare for a fashion party--not unless of course that party was a private one thrown by a non commercial sector. So my thought balloon was: CLASSSSSS!! Di kelangan ng sponsors??!! Syempre, that made me even more curious. What was it? Who's throwing it? Anong ganap?!! So i trotted off to Mother P's desk and asked, are we going to this ball? So anyway, didn't ask any more question, I guess we had to wait till the night itself to see what the whole thing was about. First thing first, had to have an outfit made. racked my brain for silhouettes to wear--should be easy given that the theme was black and white--but no!!! Ang hirap! Didn't want to do black coz that was so predictable. So white nalang, pero what design?!

On the night itself we had makeup done at Paulines. Thanks to MAC's Owen Sarmiento and Byron Velasquez. I wanted my signature smoky eyes, which believe it or not, I can't do myself. Go figure. I know, diba? And pale lips.

And then matched with the outfits, Ta-dah!! Linear pattern bustier, fit-and-flare dress on Pauline by Francis Libiran and me in a pleated ruff-neck dress with cape by Jun Escario. Thanks Ma!

Got to the Peninsula and was happy to see that everyone miling around were ALL dressed fit for a ball. Bumped into dear friends Marlon Rivera and Robi Lolin.

SATURDAY NIGHT OUT

Glad that I can post this today, two days (not bad) after i took the photos. Hidden agenda: Its the first Philippine Fashion Ball tonight at the Peninsula. And I'm thinking I'll be taking heaps of photos so might as well upload whatever images that I have on archive. Not that I'm saying its a lot, it's actually just Saturday night, but still, don't want it to pile up like all my fashion week photos na anong nangyari? Walaye.

So yes, not much events as of late but we have three for this week. So watch the space as I'm flooding it with images--Fashion Ball tonight, Kiehls 160th anniversary tomorrow. That should be a cool contrast--as that calls for vintage as oppose to glamour.

Anyhoo, Saturday was blocked off for Penny, a 630 dinner at my favorite haunt Chihuahua. She's never been so decided to have spicy Mexican to start the night. That dinner lasted a good 4 hours, with chika, catching up and four dishes in between: tacos, burritos, chili and nacho grande, and 8 margaritas (they're the best!) and a beer. Penny tips the alcohol scale by a beer and a margarita half. I only drank 3 and half before pulling out the i-have-to-drive card.

Eeeeek, I soooper missed Issy! Fresh from New York and too busy to see me *pout*, we only touched base recently because her sister Jojo will be here for a three week vacation. A bit of history: When Issy and I were still single, we were each others wingwoman. We'd hit the town three times a week--mind you, not for boys--but to drink and dance. But we got into relationships around the same time so that killed big night outs, free time now is spent either catching up on sleep or having quiet dinners. Ugh. How boring. So this instant girls night was an interesting break in the pattern. It wasn't really hard to get back to my rhythm though, wear something short, add a touch of edge, and wear my highest heels. Bam! Grab, phone, credit card, car keys, and we're off!

CULTURE CLUB

Two weeks ago, it was a massive dose of art. Two Cinemalaya films and the CAREDIVAS play. Is it obvious that I don't read the papers much? I've never heard of it till Ronald of F&H invited us. Rumor is, the shows sold out--scheduled times bought out by sponsors--so if you want to get a ticket, you go through the company that bought the show. Well, at least ours were house tickets care of F&H, so thank you Ronald, Alan and Mikko! =)

Have to say though that Care Divas was amazing. Won't be writing about it if it didn't move me. I recommend it to anyone who wants a good dose of musical, comedy and drama, baklerz way. Haha. You know how some say I'm more bading than most, well I guess I am because I understood all the innuendos and hidden jokes, not even sure if most got it because it was heavy with gay lingo and humor, but I felt right at home. Heeeeh.

Lest you think that the night was over, nooooooooooo. It was Paolo's despedida. From QC to Makati all in one night.

For someone who likes putting pen to paper, there are a dozen alternative ways of saying one word--and with everyone in the teams either in the broadsheet or the glossy, everyone was in their fight zone. Haha. We won though! Hahaha

MEXICAN BORDERS

Remember i was telling you guys about that bad Mexican resto that I'm never going to go to again? Well, heres the complete story. It's this small resto at the Fort, that area where Embassy used to be. We wanted to try it out since it was new and conveniently enough, that time, Fete dela Musique was held in the same general area. So there we were ready for a good night out. We ordered, boyf and i, same time, me first, then him. And then we sat down and waited for our food.

Good thing Paolo L and company was there so the conversation was good, we didn't realize the time. But my order, a taco, got to our table after 30 minutes. That's not yet the bad part. Given that that was Fete dela Musique and the resto was packed. I understand. What I don't understand is how boyf's order which came right after mine wasn't served immediately after. And then i saw how people that were in line after us all got theirs complete already. So, (this was after 45 minutes from the ordering), i go up to the counter to ask why our order wasn't there yet, and the cashier (in charge of the order slip line up), had the nerve pa to be angry. No apology. Nothing. They forgot it completely. It was the waiter pa, who wasn't involved in the whole thing that said sorry. Err, parang, he had more manners pa.

And then when it was already an hour and still no Taco in sight (how hard is it to make a Taco?) i asked to speak to the manager. And the manager comes, listens to me halfheartedly, says a half-ass sorry and leaves. And guess what, the Taco still doesn't come. It came after 20 minutes. Like. Seriously. Seriously?! ONE HOUR AND TWENTY MINUTES? I could have baked a cake! That manager could have handled it better, we waited for an hour already when i talked to him, a gracious bowl of chips or something sent our way would have showed they care enough to think about the customer. But as it is. Nothing. NOTHING!! I just couldn't believe that we waited an hour and a half for Tacos. Sana steak nalang diba? or Lechon? Siguro luto na yun after and hour and a half? Gaaaah. Tear hair out moment.

Anyway, on the good side, that same week, we discovered Chihuahua! Unlike the other resto that remains unnamed, Chihuahua is fast service and SUUPPPEEER good too. As en. Its as simple as the 1-4 steps.
Step 1: pick your meat. (Get the Pork!)
Step 2: choose how you want it: Taco? Burrito? Burrito bowl? Salad?
Step 3: if you want some more add-ons, like nachos or a chili bowl.
Step 4: what do you want to drink?

And they have a wall of fiery sauces. I die.

I got the burrito bowl, so good even AC loved it. And he doesn't like a lot.

And the Nacho Grande, with the sauces on the side since i don't like onions.

Didnt get a photo but the Chili is the best I've ever tasted. Like how best? I was there three times last week. Hehehehe. Its thick, rich, beany and spicy on top of a bed of Mexican rice. And not only that, their Margaritas managed to smooth out my heartache (which i unbelievably had for the whole of last week). Not. Exaggerating. You need to try it to believe.

LONDON CALLING

Everyone knows that we did back to back parties this year for our anniversary. Months prior to the two bacchanalian debaucheries, I've already taken my liver out for push-ups. Muscled and fit so that the free flowing alcohol could be met with proper exercise and stamina. Heeeh.

The Topshop party was the first, of course British high street would be the uniform. I went in feminine boho. Although my first pick was just a white frock and a leather cropped jacket. Effortless. British. (I only wanted to get drunk and party in an easy ensemble!) But one look from Vince (we picked our outfits together) and he goes, uh, NO!! He said: "I imagine you in a maxi skirt with lots of layers, this white dress is sooooo not you." FINE.

Hence the final outfit choice: a deep-v caftan, layered with a ruffled top, and still layered some more by a printed poncho. I cinched the dress with a lilac leather obi and added the floppy hat. I mean, if I'm going in bohemian luxe, i might as well take it all the way. So here we go!! =)

Shouldn't it be fish and chips? ahihihihi.

Pick your poison. Didn't notice it then, but were the drinks supppose to reflect the British flag?

NAIL LOVE

I know I've heaped on the praises for Nail Spa's divine treatment of my nails but let me say it again. Unlike other nail salons, the attendants do not go at my fingers and toes like they're digging out treasure. The two times I want to this pricey nail place at the mall, i had nicks and cuts, which for me is really, REALLY annoying, not to mention painful. Never went back there again.

Nail Spa I swear is hand and feet heaven. Im not even exaggerating. The way they do it--its like a feathery caress. See, I'm even spouting poetry. It's really a spa in the sense that having my nails done is equivalent to getting a massage--so relaxing and super enjoyable.
Plus the fact that they have an amazing polish selection! Warning though, picking just one shade can be quite a challenge.

Their new ones in: A England with their range of liquid chromes. So sleek and chic!

And it comes with too cool Medieval names too. I'd like a Merlin please.

I chose this one from Barry M. That liquid/metallic sheen is not because of the topcoat, the polish is really like that. Love eet.

And I've been waiting for this to come out. Especially Peridot.

And they had it too! Too late coz i had Barry M on already when they brought it out. Gaaaah. Love that swirly iridescent finish on Peridot, it's actually quite visible on the side of the bottle. A trippy mix of pale yellow and dragon scale green.

Which reflects yellow gold or lime depending on the angle. Here on Mother P.

CINEMALAYA 2011

Cinemalaya will always be a joy to AC and I. We've been going every year for as long as I can remember. Today was even more special since the movie at 6pm had a personal invitation from Marlon Rivera. It was his directorial debut for his movie "And Babae sa Septic Tank."

Don't let the vintage feel of the poster fool you though, this movie was modernly brilliant. Written by Chris Martinez, it was serious and hilarious at the same time. Eugene Domingo is perfect here. Ang galing galing nya. As en. Wala akong masabi. I recommend this to anyone who wants to watch something other than mainstream teleserye turned into bigscreen fodder. I would like to describe the plot, but I don't think it'll do justice. Just please watch it and tell me what you think. I super loved it.

Congratulations Marlon! I don't know what to call you now. Direk na ba? Heeh. AC says he's like the Karl Lagerfeld of the Philippines. Let me expound, *deep breath* okay here we go: He's the President of the advertising agency Publicis Manila, he's also a brilliant fashion designer (loved his Holiday offering in Fashion Week), a florist (Blue Barn), a makeup artist, a stylist, a teacher, in other words a creative multi-tasker. I don't even know where he gets his energy to do all. But he does and excels in everything too. Congratulations again!

The theater was sold out.

But managed to save seats for AC and Alan.

And pre-show, while I was looking at the schedules, (I was there alone at first), someone kissed me on the cheek! It was Cibo (Michael, see, told you I have a tendency to create names), back from the U.S. staying for two weeks before leaving the country for good. =) super pleasant surprise! We always bump into each other in Cinemalaya, and since he was alone, and i had an extra ticket, I dragged him to watch the show with us na din.

Here are other Cinemalaya posters. is it me or are they better looking than big budgeted ones? Very graphic, very clean, very me.

I want to watch three more films if my schedule permits, as Cinemalaya runs through the whole week, and is also showing in Greenbelt 3. Zombadings is on Saturday at 1145 midnight at CCP and its the only screening. Maaaaaan.

Oh, and Cherry Pie, (close?) who had a hilarious cameo in the film. She's in this other film also called Isda, about a woman who gave birth to a fish. Should be indie-resting. (interesting, get it? Heeeeeeh.) tulog na nga ako.

We were so excited, that AC was there at 4, Vince and I were there at 5 and Epoy was there already in the morning setting up because they were one of the major sponsors. Heeh, What's a concert without all your good friends? And ironically, even though we were such nerds beating the traffic and getting there a good 3 hours before the start, we still missed the opening because we were buying beer. Hahahaha. Hoewellz. Not too much of the first part really, just a few minutes prior to this:

P.S. I'm so annoyed at how my photos are so uneven! Sorry about that, the cameras new photo size is not compatible with my blog settings hence the reason its all fluctuating. *Cringe* Will fix in my next.

It all started with a very bad Mexican dinner. But then that will have to wait till another post. Writing a long discourse about that. At least, that dinner was saved by good conversation amongst friends AND the grace that is alcohol.

Yup, its that time of the year again--the time where I try to give up food and crash diet a week before the Preview Ball. It doesn't help that I'm a foodie to the nth. I realized that when I did Master Cleanse and only lasted for three days. In the lull where my mind wasn't preoccupied, i daydreamed about burgers, pasta and steak. Screw willpower, I want my carbs. Heeh. But how am I going to fit in my dreesss??? Waaah.

Was Ivarluski Aseron and Joey Samson. Thought it was really fitting that their designs ended the Fashion Watch Series. Their collections were both strong and beautiful. The type that made me (and I'm sure a whole lot of other women) want to rush backstage and make pakyaw all the clothes. Sorry that there's only Ivar's here. My cam bat was gasping for air already, and we were suppose to go to another event that night, Lourd De Veyra's book launch in Katipunan. But because it was stormy, wet, flooded and traffic everywhere, we had to turn back. I had to wait it out in the mall, hence my next blog post down there. Anyway, on to the show.

Aside from the witty pun, Swatch in collaboration with Jerome Lorico is on exhibit at Greenbelt 5. We accidentally stumbled on Jerome brainstorming with Noel Manapat for the next series. This one is the 3rd of 5 installations. Signature Lorico knits on skeletal frames, a bit eerie but a damn cool visual. Wanted to take more images but camera died on me. So I guess this will have to do.

In full fairness, super bet ko ang campaign ng Una Rosa ha. Pang international lang. Parang I want to go and buy the pieces na. All campaigns should look as good as this, even better if they were advertised in a spread in Preview--very much like the seasonal shoots of international labels. Had a press trip to Bangkok about two weeks ago. The last time I was in Thailand, it was more of seeing the sights: giant buddhas, wooden palaces, the pre-requisite trip to the jewelry factory. But now it was more of an intimate glimpse.

New discovery on the GF2, this setting is called shadows. Coolnest.

We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental. My room had a view of the river. Loved how cozy it was.

Raul recommended this cafe, a diffusion of the Greyhound brand in Siam Paragon.

The food was fantastic--visually as well as to the palate.

I ordered sardines and chilli--an Italian and Thai fusion. Without garlic of course, spent a good 5 minutes explaining that to the waiter. Haha.

Dinner was at the China House where they had couture appetizers.

Buffet breakfast beside the river. It looked murky but the river was really clean. We took that ornate looking barge to go to our Spa appointment on the other side. The trip took about two minutes.

If there's one thing that you should definitely spend money on, it's the Traditional Thai Massage at the Oriental. It's to.die. for! This was my massage room.

Shopped till I dropped here. Siam Center where they had all the local Bangkok Designers in 4 floors. Even forgot to eat lunch.

Just in case anybody wants to have "Transformers" tattooed in Thai, here's your peg. Heeeh.

Heehee. Okay, I have to giggle. This obviously wasn't in the plan. I was wearing a sweater and flat boots that day, not exactly perfect concert dressing when its at the humid MOA grounds. But what can I do? Epoy had free VIP tickets for me and AC so off we went with just a half day's notice to that nights tweens dream destination. It was fun, can't say I know a lot of her songs though but props to her singing prowess. Was pretty impressed. Loved that she sang covers of Guns & Roses and Smashing Pumpkins' Landslide (ultra favorite)--although I seriously think that the kids didn't get it. When she sang her original songs, all the kids were screaming and jumping and we were sitting down, but when she sang 90s rock, we were all screaming and jumping and THEY were sitting down. Haha. Generation gap right there. Least its an experiment again for the new camera. What do you think?

I super love my new camera. Bought it in Broadway in Harbor City. The Lumix GF2 comes with two lenses, although you can actually choose a kit with one lens (cheaper)--but buying the two lens is more bang for the buck. Here are some snaps that are all taken in natural light. Without any editing. Amazing. And heres another cool function, the GF2 is touch screen, so when I want to focus on a particular subject, it targets that and automatically blurs the background. Can somebody say: Sartorialist? heeeh. I wonder why i held off for so long. The only thing that I'm choosy about is the size and the heaviness, coming from my ixus, which nestles comfortably in my already calculated bag weight, the GF2 feels like a rock when stashed inside my tote that already contains an ipad, a workable makeup kit, my phone and a wallet thats forever getting fat with coins. And i complain about back pain at the end of the day. But. Suffer, because I soooooper love it! Originally wanted to get the red one because the earlier model GF1 didn't have it, but B dissuaded me and convinced me that the white was more me. And yes, it actually is.

Did a double take and thought Team Manila was selling in HK already. Eep. No pala.

Its the catching up thats the worse. Every night I say that I'll work on it, and then every night something comes up.
Wed, had that shoot with the other editors and Vince calls me up to ask if I was up to watch the Premiere for X-Men First Class. And I'm like, (valley girl lang): Hell yeah! Even if it was all the way in MOA. And then Thursday comes and I say, yes, i will work on the photos now, but then it was M Barrettos show in 7th High. Of course I had to be there to support. Friday rolls in and I said, this is really is it. But then boing, its movie night again with the buds to watch 'Paul'. Incidentally, if you haven't seen it, its f****n hilarious. I swear, british humor so gets me. Watch it, watch it!!!! Seth Rogan as the alien kills it too. Err, plus the fact that they're comic geeks in that movie on a roadtrip across America to see the alien sights is ultra cool. For our honeymoon, we want to see all the major ancient astronauts sites in Eric Von Daneken's book. Heeh. Love Aliens. Obviously.

And then the weekend? AC had a table in Opus so the whole gang went to drink..bottles of Vodka and Patron dancing to house/hip hop. Haaaaay. Sunday? well, of course it was recovery. But! Still had time to do my nails, Nail Spa in Legaspi! Its the best. Ever had manicurists dig into your toes making it bleed? I. Hate. That. Nakakainit ng ulo!! Well, at Nail Spa, all the procedures are done with a touch thats as light as a feather. Nakatulog nga ako eh.When i woke up, I had gleaming Le Vernis by Chanel coat my hands and feet. Its a gunmetal gray/green hue that resembles molten concrete. Coolnest!

So there, now that you know how my week went, maybe you can forgive me for not posting any since Wed. Start of the week again and its back to school for most of the kids. Have a good one y'all. As for now though, its tuck into sheets time. Goodnight.

JEROME ANG HOLIDAY 2011

May vision talaga lola mo eh. Direk Cata calls him a "simple girl with an evil plan." Muwahahahahaha. Ehem. Pero yes, Jerome is sooooo unassuming: soft spoken, easy smile, very friendly.. and then BAM! he comes up with this collection that totally blows me away. I mean, Jerome has always been a favorite. Even way, way before when I was still doing the rounds of shows as a broadsheet writer (doing reviews) and not as a Fashion Editor. And if there's one thing Jerome has been doing right, its been churning out amazing clothes, CONSISTENTLY. That says a lot about his devotion to the craft. Obvious in each and every piece.

Anyhoo, my runway photos are crap. As en. But I wanted to show you how he styled the clothes. Prosthetics on the models faces and bright red buns as hair. His whole concept was of an ugly girl and the feeling of being alienated. But I think with these collection, disconnection is the farthest thing on any fashion savants head. So yes, runway photos are blurry as hell, so the back up plan will have to do. Ultra close up detail shots of the clothes backstage. Its a whopping 38 photos. Thats a lot considering i only put about 10-15 photos per post. But then you have to see each and every piece... its watcha call drool and covet. Enjoy.

Hi guys, whew. Tiring day today, but in a good way. Shot our Top Ten Collections for Holiday and I have to say that having all those gorgeous clothes surround me is my idea of heaven. Although, when it's work mode, shopping is the farthest thing on my mind. It only hits me when I'm driving home, and the pieces flash back and I regret not having tried it on. Heeeh. It's the bane of being in this industry, it's this never ending cycle of wanting to have gorgeous pieces.

Another shoot tomorrow with the rest of the editors...us in front of the lens. Should be interesting. Although, after having mentioned this constant need for new clothes, I ironically have nothing to wear. And at this point of the day, when my brain wants nothing but to shut down, visualizing a sartorial uniform takes too much of an effort. Oh well, a good eight hours of sleep should fix that.

And, another couple I featured in my column for Valentines have broken up. That's a total of three out of the five I featured. I don't want to say that I've jinxed it but I'm pretty freaked out. If the last two pairs end theirs anytime soon, I'm never going to write about love again. Kmn.

I did not fall off the face of the earth. After the last day of Fashion Week which fell on a Sunday, the team went to the L'Oreal closing party and partied the night away. Which resulted in a hangover for Monday, and a mad dash to close on Tuesday. Wednesday I left for a long overdue Holiday. Pagbigyan na. Even Pauline said I needed a vacation. So that meant, no chance to blog at all since i only brought my iPad. But the wonders that shopping can do. Hah. Oh. And an update, bought a brand spanking new camera, so after i post all Fashion Week shows, the photo quality will be AH.MAY.ZING!! Got back on Sunday only to find that we lost internet connection in the house. So there, will update this week definitely. Sorry for the long absence but will make up for it. Pramist. As of now though, its goodnight, 9am call later and last count, I'm only getting 6 hours of sleep. Cranky na toh. Later skaters.

Maaaaaaaaaaaan. I missed blogging. I survived Fashion Week--it felt like a month. i watched ALL shows, except for one, the first show on Saturday because I had an earlier engagement that required me to be in Antipolo. But other than that, yes, I watched ALL the shows. I wouldn't be in a position to pick the ten best collections if I didn't see all yes? And I do agree with Pauline that every designer deserves to be seen. And even though i rant every night that I'm exhausted, that my ankles hurt from walking in heels, that i haven't had enough sleep, i wake up the next day with excitement to see what the collections are going to be. I love fashion. With all it's schizoprenias--and the Filipino geniuses behind it.

I would like to say Congratulatioins to the 101 designers who slaved over their pieces to come up with their best. And thank you to the people who helped us through the mad 7 days that was Fashion Week: Niko of Buensalido, you are THE goddess who opens all the doors for us. Thank you for always giving us the best seats in the house. The L'Oreal team: Alvin, Martin, Pam and the lounge, for giving us a place to hang out in with refreshing iced tea--or wine if we felt like some alcohol was in order. And, for the best closing party, EVER!!! Alvin, it's you na talaga. I've got photos to prove it too. Haha. Ouch, mad laughter makes my head ache, I'm nursing the hangover now with some hot soup. Ugh. Came from a cover shoot today. Finished at 11 pm. On top of that, my Globe connection fizzled out at around 2pm. Do you know how annoying it is to not have service? O.EM.G. I swear, I tried everything, restarted my phone, took out the sim and the battery, restarted settings. All to no avail. I got network back at 10pm. Thats 8 hours lost. Maaaaaan. My messages must be in sms limbo. Gahd. All my appointments and plans, GONE. Well, least I know I can't live without my phone. Not going to pretend to be cool and say that I can. I. Really. Can't. I'm just happy that I have my service back. To Globe: please don't do that again. I'll die.

What Andre asked for his birthday was a surprise party. Parang. Who asks that? Haha. Kaya nga surprise diba? Well, so surprise him we all did. Porch said that I should definitely push through with the whole preparation (because I was procrastinating) and Vince suggested that I say its a meeting with a potential project (because AC never comes out). I'm panicking. Because today was the first day of Fashion Week. And that means I have more photos in my memory card. Is there a trend for Taiwanese restos and an obsession for the best Xiao Long Baos? Well, this is the second one I've been to in months. Good too. And it's not the usual Chinese resto decor that comes to mind. Clean lines, Contemporary design--with a whopping three floors.
Heard that reservation is a must because its always full--especially at peak hours. But my chicky Maybz's boyfriend is the owners best friend. So thank you Ellery, for the table and the recommendations.

Of course we had to try the Xiao Long Baos. Sarraaaapppp.

Actually forgot what this dish is called. Pepper beef i think. Its as good as it looks.

But this one takes the cake. That sort of looks half eaten because it already is. Heeh. We dug in before I realized we unconsciously attacked it. Sorry. Its pork with egg. Again, I can't remember what its called but its sooooo good topped on plain rice. Drool.

And i died coz Machang or Stuffed sticky rice is my favorite! AS EN!

And fish that we thought was smothered in garlic-- (Ew. I don't eat garlic kse.) but it turned out to be peanuts pala, interesting texture.

The Cebu Face-Off show ended with none other than Cary Santiago. I don't think I have to explain why. In this collection, Cary's signature attention to detail translated into intricate weaving and architectural folds with overhanging eaves. In other words, jaw-dropping. Watch and lust.

Was in Cebu for a two day back to back event, the first one was the Cebu Young Designers Competition, the next was Face-Off. Cebuano designers pitted against Manila ones. It was a good show, lots of covetable clothes. And although that day was spent more glued to the tube watching the Royal Wedding, the night proved to be quite riveting as well.

Just goes to show that I haven't really been out in Cebu much. I've heard of Abaseria many times but haven't tried it. But thanks to our gracious hosts Cary Santiago and Jude Bacalso, I finally had the chance to go. Ang sarap lang. Can't believe I've missed out for this long. Its home cooked food in a tourist showcase ambience. Very comfy and homey.

Ay, di ko nausog yung monobloc. Ahihi.

Utensils for giants. What is the history of wooden spoons? Remember it used to be so "uso" to have a giant spoon and fork on the walls na naka eks? Whhyyy?

For starters, we had the Kamote thins and dilis/pusit crisps. Yum.

CEBU YOUNG DESIGNERS COMPETITION

Cary Santiago invited me to judge the CYDC. And booked me a month in advance so I'd really block off the date. So from Holy Week in Cebu, came back here to Manila, and flew back to Cebu again after two days. Flying really stresses me out--and you know that--but I love Cary, so of course it was a Yes. I was pretty excited too because new aesthetics and designers always inspires me.

There were 7 clothing and 4 accessory designers. We had pre-judging so i was able to scrutinize and touch almost all of the pieces. Its a known fact that Cebu churns out the best accessory designs because its an export hub, but sadly, only 4 were competing.

Meme Dakay came up with a sea theme. With fiery orange corals as inspiration.

And exotic sea urchins. This one I bought and will give as a gift to AC. Happy Birthday Doitch!!!

She also came up with winking crystalline blue armbands that resemble swaying sea plants. She calls it the Pacific.

The winner though was Julius Louie de la Cruz. Okay, my camera's crap and doesn't really do justice to the pieces...but up-close, the different elements are made up of varying finishes: reptile skin, feathers, leather.. and the flower petals are made out of translucent Carabao nails. Yup, you read that right, nails and not horns.

As for the clothes, i was fascinated by the textures.

Pinky Magalona was brilliant enough to make her own fabrication. Nope, thats not fur but shredded chiffon--light enough to wear for day. Although she might just have to think of a different shape and finish because it looks mighty hot and itchy to me.

Her tailored pieces were fanatastic though. Clean and well proportioned. I think it was also because of this that she won. =)

My other bet was Mikey Yapching. Layers of flimsy. sheer and opaque. Interesting shape too.

Remember I was in Cebu for Holy Week? Well, my brother and I are fond of hunting treasures in Vintage shops. Its not Ukay. It's actually an old department store that got left behind by the times, hence, the products in the shelves are so antiquated that its good condition vintage!

Found this pair of Bally two tone ballet flats for only 2k. But the clincher is, it comes only in a size 5 and 6. Maaaaaaan.

It came in other styles too. I super want the one with the bows!! especially the mustard! But size 6? thats only 3/4s of my feet. Waaah. Gawin ko nalang open-toe. Hihi. Dubious about the authenticity because I never really remembered that Bally was "of Switzerland"--I did some shallow snooping.

And found this in a vintage ad. Ah. Bally OF Switzerland nga pala. Maybe I wasn't born yet. Imagine how old the shoes are! Argh. I want.

Quiet on the blog front. I know. Waaah. It's hard to lug around a laptop when I'm out of town for press trips, I usually bring the handier iPad. And of course I can't really upload photos to my image host using a tablet. No USB ports for my external drive. Sigh. Imagine how easy everything would be if ipads came with USB ports.

Anyhoo, just letting you know that I'm full to the brim with photos, uploading it later. Just took time off to relax today. Went to S&R because AC had to buy Febreeze, and I bough lint removers (for my styling kit) that was 6 in a pack and it was buy one, take one! Steal! Even had time to go to mass, although don't you just hate it when bad homily's make you zone out? There's a priest in Greenbelt that gives great sermons. Not some dated biblical mumbo jumbo, but relevant stories that we all can incorporate in our lives. But with the insane mercury spike that we've been having, doing anything outdoors is a no-no. So far, it's been air-conditioned churches for the win.

And then there was Thor. Geek out! Growing up with two brothers, I've learned the Marvel heroes from the DC ones at a young age. Thor was the lesser character, it was Captain America who was the star of Avengers. So I was pretty surprised that I loved the movie. Maybe it was the combination of mythical as opposed to some radiation freak that got me. Always was fascinated with the Gods. And I have to say, was not disappointed with Asgard's visualization. It was as I imagined it. And that amber bridge that sparked with the horses hooves. Beautiful. I wonder how future movies are going to depict it? I mean, in 3D it was already awesome. Maybe in the future it will come with sensory experiences? Cool. Of course after the movie, AC and the boyf just went total geek out, talking about Marvel Universe and all the other comic books. Did you guys get to see the teaser at the end of the credits? There's always one. Thors teaser was at the end of Iron Man 2. Anyway, spoiler alert!!! It was Nick Fury with a power cube. Who's the next hero? My guess is it's Transformers. haha. Remember James Earls deep voice in the opening of the Transformers movie: "In the beginning was the cube." Charot. Can't wait for the next!!

The boyf asked to keep Wednesday night free, my last night before I flew to Cebu. And since it was birthday week, okay, i thought, must be a good dinner in some new resto that we haven't tried yet. But when I told him that I had a shoot at 6 that day and will probably finish at around 730 to 8ish, he panicked and let slip that we have to be somewhere by 8.

Gasht, so that sort of unscrewed my organized day. Like, what was I suppose to wear? I had to run around the morning pa to pull out and be at the studio to sort the shoot by 6. In turn, that made me dress up in the morning for a record of two hours. i wanted an outfit that would transition me from working--but dressy enough to go straight to wherever we were going. I asked if I was to wear anything in particular, and his reply was an ambiguous: "Comfy shoes." Phaaaak. Was he taking me out to a picnic? In grasslands? With a lot of walking involved? Stress Drillon!!!

Anyway, turned out, it wasn't all of the above. Heeeeh. He surprised me and took me to the Radio Department concert!! Which was even better! Never even figured it out till we were outside Glorietta 3. And I'm like, what? I need comfy shoes to go to the mall? haha. And then like a final jigsaw clicking into place, i guessed: Eeeek, we're going to a concert!!

A brief background: I asked him before if we were watching and he said no, some excuse about--I can't even remember... But it was a surprise! Yay! *so happy* and to think I told him that I wanted to listen to their album first before we went pero, nooooo. No time to brush up and review. It was like being lead blind. I have to say, again, never even heard of their music before. Although I did have the Marie Antoinette album where three of their songs were featured, can't say I'm a fan. But of course, the boyf takes care of the indie rock/post-modern/dreamwave side of this relationship while i take care of the indie/electro/dance/rock of it. Perfect combo. He introduces me to bands that he likes and same as with me. Although the bands that I like never come here, sigh. They're almost always the DJ sets like A-Trak, Kid Killy, Tittsworth, ATFC, and Aoki. LMFAO was a surprise, didn't know they were a band till I saw them live. Pero, di na ako choosy. I'll take em all.

Of course, loved the sound of the Radio Department. Although I was also impressed by the local band who did front act. Moscow Olympics, again, so obscure but apparently known internationally! And turns out, Elaine from Fred Perry is the wifey of the vocals: AJ!

Man, I lost those Topshop sunnies that I'm wearing in that photo. Still looking for a replacement. Had to take this photo with us three reinterpreting red with touches of stripes. Coat + tent dress on me. Ultra-deep v tank + tiered layer skirt on Jae and slouchy blazer + striped body con on Anna. Pretty much reflects each of our styles.

Just got home from a two-hour Easter Vigil. Haven't attended one in a while. Thank goodness it was air-conditioned, and the lights were turned OFF for effect. Not that I was sleeping. Nooo. Heeh. It was better because it gave the mass a more solemn effect. (We had candles on) Halfway through it of course they turned it on to signify that Jesus has risen. Because I seldom get to go--having the chance to hear mass always makes me feel better. But since I got here on Thursday, I've been to 10 churches (for Bisita Iglesia) and a two hour mass. Check! Pogi points for my "good" book. I wanted to go to confession as well, but I think it was a majorest event for all the priests because there wasn't even one for anyone to confess to. Wow.

Anyway, sorry, I did say that I was going to update. But vacation mode took over and it was a marathon of movies and early nights in. In other words, *BLISSS* Siiiiigggh. =)

I'm multi-tasking. I'm writing my column for Supreme as I'm writing this draft. I'm actually stumped on the other end so I figured maybe if I de-stress here, words would come out freely in the other.

Was anyone out on the roads earlier today? It was sooooooper, as in soooooper traffic because of that fire in Guadalupe. I seriously thought that my PMS was spiraling out of control because my patience quotient was running on unbelievable low, (as en I could almost feel heat radiating out of my hot head, migraine girl lang) couple that with unbelievable ***holic drivers who can't seem to wait for their turn, tear-hair-out-and-gnash my teeth frustration moment. Have you guys ever had that? Good thing I wasn't on my way to a meeting, that would have been even more stressful. Gasht.

Least theres shopping for consolation, to those who haven't been to the malls recently, Topshop and Topman are on sale since the 15th. And I thought I'd know that first since I practically live in the mall! Yup, still worth checking out though, I found these nice, tan, pleat-front trousers for only P1400 in Topman, but I was in a hurry earlier, no time to try it on. Will definitely go back tomorrow. And even a few pieces not marked as sale are on discount, I would know because half the items I picked that I wanted to pull out were from the regular racks--but I couldn't get it because it was also on sale. So try asking the SAs, that dress you've been eyeing on might be yours tomorrow!

Anyway, speaking of running low, I'm also almost empty on images to upload, no events till after Holy Week. Everything slows to a standstill come Thursday. Flying to Cebu to de-stress. I'm hoping I could take photos of local stylistas there, but I'm wondering when will I get the chance? And where? I'd really like to showcase Cebuano style naman, I'm pretty sure theres a lot! But how?

Wait, before that. A little background first.

Life sure is strange. No, thats not the background. Wait lang! Heeh. It's strange because I never really have qualms about approaching stylish people in public asking if I can photograph them. It could be my 8.0 Ixus thats the only non-credible thing in my arsenal of photo weapons but thats soon to be upgraded to a higher megapixel Canon. I love Canon!! (Just so you know, its not sponsored but a personal preference.) Yip! =) So last Thursday in Fashion Watch at The Shangri-La Makati lobby, i saw in the corner of my eye these two very dandy looking men. And I've never seen them before in the fashion circles so I was intrigued. New subjects! More so when I chanced upon the footwear, (intraspectator nga diba?) its was Prada Mens Spring Summer 2011 with the raffia soles and multi-colored body. And very hard to find!

Let's not forget that Fashion creates economies, in fact, in the U.S., its a billion dollar industry. And if you say that Filipinos have other priorities, of course we all do, but the way you match your shoes, to the tiniest speck of print on your shirt, even in your most normalest basicness still constitutes as fashion, and it defines you as well as it defines decades. So please, a little bit of respect for the industry that I love.

A lot of events these past few days. Went to the Style Origin show for The Ramp last Tuesday. Okay heres a secret, this store is one of my guilty pleasures. There's so many great clothes in their in-house brands and at such friendly prices! I once bought this tailored slit-sleeve cape thats very Celine Spring Summer 2011 when it still wasn't on the runways. Which reminds me, where the hell is that cape? I'll post a photo of that fabulous find one of these days. AND, again, they're also one of those stores thats so easy to pull out from! Another heaven sent in Publication Speak. =) Congratulations Xandra!

BIRTHDAY MONTH

April is special to me because its my birthday month. I also share it with Vince who happens to be a very good friend. Strangely enough, I have the strongest affinity with Tauruses, same as my sign. My other good friend who is a Scorpio, is still in the Taurus quadrant. Don't know if theres any significance there but wala lang, just wanted to share. And when I was small, I always thought I was special (di pala. haha) because my birthstone was diamonds. Yaman ko lang sa horoscope ko diba?

Anyhoo, speaking of birthdays, I know there are people who would kill me if i forgot theirs, but when it comes to mine--I really don't care. Wait--panggap? I don't really mean that, more off, it's not a very big deal. I mean, I downplay it a lot. And I don't hold grudges if people forget. Because anyway, the most important ones in my life actually don't. Which is how the inverse proportion of friends work in relativity to age. The younger you are, the more friends you have. But the older you get, some or a lot fall away and it becomes an edited group of closely knit, like-minded philosophers and etchoseras. And I'm happy with that.

But, of course, birthdays are always special because its almost always fun. How often do you get a day where all your friends give you a free pass? hahaha. And, any excuse to party right?
